Winter Self Care
With the day growing dark and the winds sharp, winter has undoubtedly arrived. The evenings are lit with the sparkle of Christmas lights and warmed with fires, as we all sit wrapped in blankets and big scarves.
The change in weather brings a new set of challenges for your skin and our spa team have some seasonal self-care tips for you.
Their first tip is to choose a great skincare product to keep skin hydrated this season.
“We would recommend a good moisturizer like our ELEMIS pro-collagen marine cream SPF30. Not only does it hydrate and improve firmness to the skin, but it also protects from those cold winter months and any environmental exposure. The SPF will also guard against any winter sun if we are lucky enough to get any!”
Ensuring you treat yourself is the second tip. Our spa has a fantastic range of treatments to combat those seasonal blues and they have the perfect suggestion for winter.
“Our favourite treatment for this time of year would be our body nectar nourishing wrap, for immediate softness and suppleness, perfect for skin that may have become a little dryer in the winter. The velvety texture of the Monoi oil offers super hydration quenching a thirsty skin. You are kept cocooned and warm whilst the mood-balancing aromatics drench your skin in moisture.”
When practising self-care at home, their third tip is to avoid the temptation of hot water when you are cold.
“It is very tempting to go for hot showers when the temperature is dipping. But if you love your skin, avoid them. Instead, use lukewarm water to shower and wash your face. Hot showers dry your skin quickly, and if you do not moisturize it immediately, your skin can develop cracks and winter eczema. Once you have taken a lukewarm shower, apply a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid and ceramides. This will keep the moisture barrier intact and prevent dryness.”
Cracked and chapped lips are really a sign of the season, but they don’t have to be!
“In winter make sure your lips are sealed with an effective ointment at all times, particularly before eating or drinking, as some foods like tomatoes can irritate dry chapped lips.”
Celebrate the festive season and gift yourself some self-care time. Our team of therapists can provide friendly, expert advice to accompany any luxury treatment you receive.
