Poppy Golf Day success 2018

“Thank you – all those who served, sacrificed and changed our world”

We had a wonderful turn out for our Poppy Golf competition, held at the Carlyon Bay Golf Club on the 4th November 2018. This was the first time we have ran the competition, where proceeds from the tee times and the raffle are being donated to the Royal British Legion and Poppy Appeal. We are delighted to announce that we raised over £1200 on the day! Royal British Legion representative Annie Binding attended the event, sharing stories and gratitude about where the money raised in Cornwall goes.

We had 86 competitiors in the event, including visitors, members of the golf club and hotel guests all of which showed excellent support for the day. There were some great scores in the individual stableford competition, with junior E. Douglas coming in first place with a cracking score of 43.

Results - Gentleman:

  • 1st Place - E. Douglas with 43 points
  • 2nd Place - S. Prince with 41 points
  • 3rd Place - L. McGirl with 40 points
  • 4th Place - J. Webb with 39 points

  • 1st Place - J. Waldron with 35 points
  • 2nd Place - K. Barratt with 34 points
  • 3rd Place - K. Elworthy with 30 points
  • 4th Place - R. Fenwick with 27 points

The top raffle prize for the day was a 1 night dinner bed and breakfast stay at the Carlyon Bay Hotel, donated by Brend Hotels. We also had wonderful support from local businesses, with raffle prizes being donated by the Lost Gardens of Heligan, St. Austell Brewery, Molson Coors, the Eden Project, Flambards, Kingswood, Caerhays Castle & Estate and Kittows Quality Meat.

Our Director of Golf Paul Martin expressed how pleased he was with the event, and we look forward to our next Poppy Golf Day in 2019.
